WTC Final 2023, Ind vs Aus: Why, When, Where – All You Need To Know

The World Test Championship Final is like a World Cup, but for Test Cricket. Started in 2019, this will be second edition of the WTC Final. New Zealand clinched the 2019-21 cycle by beating India at The Southampton, England.

Nine Team (Test recognition) competes in two-years cycle in a league. The top two teams eventually qualify for the final.

How did India and Australia qualified for WTC Final 2023?

Well, India started 2021-23 cycle on high as they stunned the host England with 2-1 lead, but the fifth game was postponed to 2022. However, England won the rescheduled game and ended the four-match series on draw, 2-2.

Followed by winning a home series 1-0 against New Zealand, and then a 2-1 defeat by the host South Africa. The defeat left a bigger impact as Rohit Sharma succeeded Virat Kohli as side’s captain.

India then stunned host Sri Lanka (2-0) and Bangladesh (2-0). Rohit Sharma-led side booked their WTC Final berth after beating Australia in the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Meanwhile, Australia had started with an emphatic 4-0 win Ashes win at home. A three-Test tour of Pakistan that ended in visitor’s favor 1-0. Then 1-1 draw in Sri Lanka, 2-0 clean sweep while hosting West Indies, followed by 2-0 win against South Africa in a three-Test series.

Just like India, Australia’s WTC Final fate was decided in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 as they were able to win 3rd Test and then draw the fourth one, to secure their qualification.

What happens if the Test is drawn or tied?

In that scenario, India and Australia will share the trophy for the 2021-23 cycle.

What’s the Weather?

It’s predicated to stay sunny for first three days and then fifth day. But, bit of shower is expected in fourth day of the Test match.

Is there any Reserve Day?
YES! 12th June is scheduled as Reserve Day. It will be used only if there has been play list due to bad weather across the regular five days.

Prize Money?

The winners will take a Test menace home and will get a prize of $1.6 million. The runners-up will go home with $800,000.
