Israel’s Decision To Remove Greta Thunberg From School Syllabus Explained

Israel’s Education Ministry has made a surprising decision after climate activist Greta Thunberg expressed her support for Palestine on social media. The ministry said her stance disqualifies her as a role model for Israeli students.

They also announced that any mentions of Greta Thunberg would be taken out of school lessons.

The Education Ministry explained its decision by pointing to the actions of Hamas, which they label as a terrorist organization. According to the ministry, Hamas is responsible for the deaths of around 1,400 Israelis, including children, women, and the elderly.

They also mentioned that over 200 people were kidnapped by Hamas and taken to Gaza. In light of this, they feel that Greta Thunberg is no longer a suitable inspiration or educator for Israeli students.

Greta Thunberg’s social media post, shared on Friday, expressed her support for “justice and freedom for Palestinians.” She urged the world to call for an immediate ceasefire and justice for Palestinians.

Israel’s official social media account condemned Greta Thunberg’s post, highlighting the impact of Hamas attacks on innocent Israelis and urging her to speak up.

In addition to the government’s response, a group of Israeli environmental activists criticized Greta Thunberg’s stance, calling it one-sided, ill-informed, and superficial. They also noted that it contradicts her usual approach of deeply delving into complex issues.

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas began in early October, triggered by rocket attacks from Hamas and Israel’s response. The conflict has led to the deaths of over 1,400 Israelis and more than 4,700 Palestinians in Gaza.
