In his first speech in 2023, Rishi Sunak’s ambition to educate all kids up to age 18, in the United Kingdom, with some form of maths, made headlines globally.

“In a World where data is everywhere and statistics underpin every job, but letting our children out into that world without those skills is letting our children down,” Mr. Sunak said.

The newly appointed prime minister further suggested that he wants people to attain the skills they need to “feel confident” with finances and things like mortgage deals.

According to Mr. Sunak, just half of 16 to 19-years of age study math, including students who are pursuing science courses, and compulsory GCSE resits in college.

Meanwhile, BBC has claimed that the Rishi Sunak-led government acknowledges that the implementation of such a complex project will not be possible before general elections, but the prime minister is likely to begin working on the plan in this parliament.
