West Bengal Launches ‘Rattirer Shaathi’ Program For Women Medical Professionals Amid Safety Concerns

  • Night Volunteers: ‘Rattirer Shaathi’—women volunteers—will be present during night shifts.
  • Safe Zones: Areas identified with full CCTV coverage and constant monitoring.
  • Mobile App: A special app with alarm features will be mandatory for all female staff, linking directly to local police stations and control rooms.
  • Security Checks: Regular security and breathalyzer checks at medical institutions.
  • Visakha Committees: Institutions are encouraged to establish committees to address workplace sexual harassment.
  • Team Scheduling: Encouragement for organizations to schedule women in pairs or teams for enhanced safety.
  • Private Sector Involvement: Private institutions are urged to adopt the ‘Rattirer Shaathi’ protocol.

This announcement coincides with the Union Health Ministry’s decision to form a committee to explore additional measures for protecting healthcare professionals.
