WATCH: “We Cannot Solve Issues This Way” BSF Jawan’s Plea To Bangladeshis Seeking Illegal Entry To India
A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan implored a large group of anxious Bangladeshis gathered along the West Bengal border in Cooch Behar to remain calm, stating, “Nothing will come out of shouting.”
The crowd, awaiting entry into India, was met with increased vigilance as the BSF heightened security measures across the international border.
On Sunday, eleven Bangladeshi nationals were apprehended attempting to infiltrate through the borders of West Bengal, Tripura, and Meghalaya.
“We understand the challenges you’re facing. The whole world does. But crossing the border in this manner isn’t the solution,” the jawan said in a video by The Indian Express.
He emphasized the need for dialogue, explaining that issues can only be resolved through discussion. “You can see that senior officers are here discussing these matters. Is it possible to cross the border like this?” he asked, to which the crowd responded with a resounding “no.”
The jawan urged the crowd to heed the instructions from their officers in Bangladesh, who are in talks with their Indian counterparts to address the unfolding situation.
Assam Director General of Police G.P. Singh told PTI that the central government has issued strict orders to prevent illegal entry from Bangladesh. However, Indian passport holders, including students and traders, will be allowed entry after proper verification of their documents.
Villages along the Meghalaya border, where fencing could not be completed due to land demarcation issues, remain on high alert. Residents maintain an overnight vigil as the area within 150 yards of the international border pillar remains vulnerable.
India’s border security agencies have reported a surge in attempts by Bangladeshis to enter India, as their country faces ongoing unrest following the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
