WATCH: Varun Dhawan Joins Cast Of ‘Border 2’; Sunny Deol Announces Release Date
Team Border 2 officially announced on Friday that Varun Dhawan will join the cast of the highly anticipated sequel. Sunny Deol, who leads the film, shared the news on social media with a video clip featuring Varun’s voice.
In the clip, Varun’s character says, “Dushman ki har goli se Jai Hind bol kar takrata hoon, jab dharti maa bulati hai, sab chhod kar aata hoon.” The film is slated for release on January 23, 2026, during the Republic Day weekend.
Varun Dhawan’s role in Border 2 marks his debut in the war-drama genre. There had been speculation about his involvement for some time, but it was confirmed with this announcement.
Earlier reports had suggested that Ayushmann Khurrana was set to play a soldier in the film but withdrew due to creative differences and uncertainty about his role in an ensemble led by Sunny Deol.
Additionally, the makers are interested in casting Diljit Dosanjh, though his involvement has not been confirmed. Diljit’s potential participation could add a significant dynamic to the film, given his growing international popularity and strong audience base in north India.
Border 2, directed by Anurag Singh, known for films like Kesari and Punjab 1984, was announced on June 13, 2024, to mark 27 years since the original Border. The film has been promoted as “India’s biggest war film.”
Varun Dhawan, who recently made a cameo in Stree 2, has other projects lined up, including Bhediya 2, Baby John, and an untitled film directed by his father, David Dhawan.
