WATCH: PM Modi’s ‘Nehru And Indira Thought Indians Are Lazy’ Jibe At Congress
NEW DELHI: In a scathing critique of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that Jawaharlal Nehru considered Indians to be indolent and less intelligent.
Responding to the ‘Motion of Thanks’ on the President’s address, PM Modi also targeted former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi for her assertion that Indians tend to evade challenges.
Quoting Prime Minister Nehru’s statement from the Red Fort, PM Modi remarked, “Indians generally do not have the habit of working very hard; we do not work as much as the people of Europe or Japan or China or Russia or America.”
He emphasized that this indicated Nehru’s belief that Indians were both lethargic and less intelligent, amidst slogans from Congress MPs.
PM Modi went on to highlight that Indira Gandhi shared a similar mindset to Nehru.
He referenced a quote from the former PM during an Independence Day address from the Red Fort, where she expressed concern about the nation becoming complacent during auspicious times and feeling defeated when confronted with challenges.
