Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra made a remarkable comeback to clinch the gold medal at the Paavo Nurmi Games 2024 in Finland on Tuesday, June 18, with an impressive throw of 85.97m in an eight-man field.
This was Chopra’s third event of the season, after he missed the Ostrava Golden Spike athletics meet in Czechia last month due to precautionary measures taken for an injury.
Chopra’s performance in Finland reaffirmed his top form as he prepares for the Paris Olympics next month. His best throw of 85.97m, achieved on his third attempt, secured the gold medal.
The Indian athlete began the event with a strong throw of 83.62m, taking the lead after the first round. Finland’s Oliver Helander temporarily took the lead in the second round with a throw of 83.96m. However, Chopra reclaimed the top spot in the third round with his 85.97m throw.
Although Finnish athlete Toni Keränen posed a fierce challenge with a throw of 84.19m, Chopra’s lead remained unchallenged. This victory marks another significant achievement in Neeraj Chopra‘s illustrious career.
