WATCH: MS Dhoni’s Stretches 2.27m To Complete Spectacular Catch Behind Stumps During CSK Vs GT Match
Chennai Super Kings aficionados eagerly anticipated the sight of MS Dhoni striding to the crease on Tuesday evening, yet their hopes were dashed for the second consecutive match as the former CSK skipper remained unrequired with the bat.
Nevertheless, the MA Chidambaram Stadium reverberated with excitement when the 42-year-old icon leapt to his right, executing a lightning-fast diving catch to dismiss Vijay Shankar. The moment was captured on video, showcasing Dhoni’s remarkable reflexes.
A graphic displayed by the host broadcasters later revealed the extent of Dhoni’s athleticism, stretching an impressive 2.27 meters to complete the catch off Daryl Mitchell’s delivery.
Dhoni, who relinquished the captaincy before the new season to Ruturaj Gaikwad, had led the team in every IPL season since its inception in 2008.
In the batting department, CSK, after being put in to bat by Shubman Gill, amassed a commanding total of 206/6. Rachin Ravindra (46), Ruturaj Gaikwad (46), and Shivam Dube (51) led the charge, while contributions from Mitchell (24) and Sameer Rizvi (14) added impetus to the innings.
Defending their formidable total, the home side stifled last year’s runners-up, restricting them to 143/8. Deepak Chahar, Mustafizur Rahman, and Tushar Deshpande starred with two wickets apiece.
For CSK, the victory marked their second consecutive win, propelling them to the summit of the points table.
