WATCH: “Kangana Has Exerience In Rape,” Akali Leader Simranjit Singh Mann’s Shocking Remark
Former Punjab MP Simranjit Singh Mann ignited controversy on Thursday with derogatory comments directed at actor-politician Kangana Ranaut. The Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) leader’s remarks came in response to Ranaut’s recent claim that “rapes” occurred during the farmers’ protests.
Mann stated, “You can ask her [Kangana Ranaut] how rape happens so that people can be explained how rape happens. She has a lot of experience of rape.”
His comments quickly drew backlash, with the Punjab Women’s Commission taking note and announcing action, deeming the statement an “insult to a woman.”
Ranaut’s team responded strongly, condemning the trivialization of rape. In a statement, they highlighted how casual and harmful rhetoric like this reflects deep-rooted patriarchal attitudes.
Simranjit Mann’s controversial remarks came after Ranaut, in a recent interview, alleged that the farmers’ protests could have escalated into a Bangladesh-like crisis in India, had it not been for strong leadership.
Her comments, which also suggested that “bodies were hanging” and “rapes” occurred during the protests, sparked widespread criticism and prompted the BJP to distance itself from her views. Ranaut later revealed that she had been reprimanded by the party leadership for her statements.
