MUMBAI: In a historic moment at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium, Jemimah Rodrigues orchestrated lively celebrations as the Indian Women’s cricket team secured a landmark eight-wicket victory against Australia in the Women’s Test.
This triumph marked India’s maiden Test win over Australia in 11 encounters since 1977, adding an extra layer of significance to the jubilant scenes that followed.
Known for her vibrant spirit, Jemimah took center stage, conducting brief interviews with teammates and the coaching staff, including Amol Muzumdar. The dressing room exuded a festive atmosphere, complemented by a spread of delicious food to commemorate the memorable achievement.
India clinched the Test on Day 4’s second session by successfully chasing down a target of 75 runs in just 18.4 overs. Sneh Rana’s stellar performance, earning her the Player of the Match award with seven crucial wickets, contributed significantly to the team’s success.
The first innings saw noteworthy contributions from Smriti Mandhana (74), Jemimah (73), debutant Richa Ghosh (52), and Deepti Sharma (78), with their performances underlining India’s dominance.
Jemimah, in particular, continued her stellar Test debut, amassing 180 runs in two matches at an impressive average of 60, featuring two half-centuries and a high score of 73. After showcasing her talent against England, she proved instrumental in India’s victory against Australia, solidifying her promising Test career.
