Time For Next Generation To Take Over: Virat Kohli Retires from T20I Cricket
Legendary Indian batsman Virat Kohli has announced his retirement from T20I cricket following his Player of the Match performance in the T20 World Cup 2024 final.
Kohli’s courageous innings of 76 runs off 59 balls was crucial in the most significant game of the tournament, lifting India to 176/7 in their innings. Despite a challenging tournament, Kohli ended on a high note.
Reflecting on his decision after the match, Kohli expressed his emotions, stating, “This was my last T20 World Cup, and it’s exactly what we aimed for. There are days when runs don’t come, and then suddenly everything falls into place—God is great. It was a now-or-never situation, and I’m glad we achieved our goal of lifting the cup. This marks my last T20 game for India. It’s time for the next generation to carry the torch in T20 cricket and achieve great things, as we’ve seen in the IPL.”
Kohli leaves the T20I arena as the second-highest run-scorer of all time, trailing only Rohit Sharma, with 4188 runs to his credit.
