Elon Musk’s Tesla To Set Up Manufacturing Unit In India: Report

New Delhi: Month after Tesla CEO Elon Musk met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the sidelines of latter’s maiden state visit to the United States, reports have hinted that automobile giant is in talks with Indian government to set up a car factory in the country.

Tesla is aspiring to set up a manufacturing unit with annual capacity of 5 Lakh electric vehicles with prices beginning from Rs. 20 Lakh.

Government sources have told Times of India that automobile company is planning to use India as an export base as it plans to ship cars to countries in the Indo-Pacific region.

Tesla has come to us with an ambitious plan, and we are confident that the movement will be positive this time around, especially it involves both local manufacturing and exports,” source said.

The report also stated that the commerce and industry ministry is leading the discussion and government is positive for a ‘good deal.’
