Teammates were once friends and brothers, now they are just colleagues: R Ashwin

Hinting towards not so pleasing atmosphere in the dressing room, Indian off spinner R Ashwin has said that the time when players were like brothers are gone, and now everyone in the dressing room is like a colleague.

Ashwin’s remark came after the top-seeded Test bowler was dropped from high-stake World Test Championship final against Australia as the Indian team management decided to go with four pacers and one spinner (Ravindra Jadeja).

“This is an era where everybody is a colleague. Once upon a time when cricket was played, all your teammates were friends/brothers. Now they’re colleagues. There is a big difference as now everyone wants to advance themselves and to stride ahead of another person sitting to your right or left,” Ashwin told Indian Express.

The veteran cricketer further stated that cricket gets better when it is shared.

“In fact, I believe cricket It gets better when you share it. It gets better when you understand another person’s technique and another person’s journey. But it does not happen even close to how much it must happen,” added Ashwin.

Commenting on a cricketer’s journey, R Ashwini said that a cricketer lives an isolated life.

“Nobody will come for your help. It’s an isolated journey. Of course, you reach out to professionals, tap into some coaches, pay and go, practice, try to feed them all. But sometimes we forget that cricket is a sled-taught sports,” Ashwin concluded.
