Shubman Gill played a fantastic innings, we were outplayed: Mumbai Indians head coach Mark Boucher

Shubman Gill produced yet another masterclass on Friday night as he guided defending champions Gujarat Titans it second successive final in the Indian Premier League. While batting first, Gujarat opener Shubman Gill batted brilliantly to score 129 off just 60 deliveries against Mumbai Indians in a must-win Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2023.

Gill’s brilliant knock helped Gujarat to pile up mammoth 233/5 in the 1st innings. In response, Mumbai Indians could only manage to post 171 as the former champions fell short of 62-runs. After MI crashed out of the league, its head coach Mark Boucher stated that Gill played a fantastic innings and his side was completely outplayed by the defending champions.

“Unfortunately, T20 game is tough at times and we were outplayed. Gill played a fantastic innings and we could not execute through the night, which happens in T20 cricket,” Boucher said in the post-match press conference.

Speaking of the match, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varama batted brilliantly for their side and kept the hopes alive but Mohit Sharma delivered an unprecedented spell in the 2nd innings to restrict Mumbai at 177. In his 14-ball spell, Mohit bagged five wickets and conceded just 10 runs.

Chennai Super Kings will not take on Gujarat Titans in the summit-clash on May 28, Sunday at Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad.
