Shubman Gill Designated As Punjab’s ‘State Icon’ For Lok Sabha Polls
PUNJAB: The Chief Electoral Officer in Punjab has named Indian cricketer Shubman Gill as a “state icon” for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
In a recent statement, Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C announced that Gill will actively engage in voter awareness campaigns aimed at achieving a 70 percent voter turnout, part of the “Is Vaar 70 Paar” initiative.
During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Punjab saw a voter turnout of 65.96 percent across its 13 constituencies.
Emphasizing Gill’s popularity, especially among the youth, Sibin C highlighted his role as a “state icon” for the election period.
Efforts are now underway, following a meeting with all deputy commissioners of Punjab, to identify areas with historically low voter turnout. Gill’s involvement in awareness campaigns within these regions is expected to boost voter engagement and increase turnout.
Previously, Punjabi singer Tarsem Jassar was also appointed as a ‘state icon’ and will join Gill in similar initiatives.
The CEO is optimistic that figures like Shubman Gill and Tarsem Jassar will inspire first-time voters and citizens of all ages to participate in the electoral process.
With the Lok Sabha elections set for April-May, preparations are underway to ensure a smooth and inclusive democratic process.
