Sheikh Hasina Breaks Silence, Condemns Coup As ‘Insult to Bangladesh’s Founding Leaders’
Deposed Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina broke her silence on Tuesday, condemning the coup against her government as a profound insult to her father, the nation’s founding leader, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the countless martyrs who fought for Bangladesh’s independence.
In a statement released through her son, Sajeeb Wazed, Hasina expressed her outrage, stating, “The Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, under whose leadership we achieved self-respect, identity, and an independent nation, has been deeply dishonored.“
She continued, “This coup insults the blood of millions of martyrs. I demand justice from the people of Bangladesh.”
Hasina also called on the nation to observe National Mourning Day on August 15, marking the anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s assassination. “I urge everyone to honor this day with dignity and solemnity. Please offer prayers and lay floral tributes at Bangabandhu Bhavan,” she appealed.
