Jagruti Panda: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is setting up a gold standard in white-ball cricket. With every single run 35-year-old is shattering records and carving his name in the history books. After surpassing AB de Villiers’ in the list of highest run-getters in the ODI format, Rohit Sharma has now gone ahead of another legend of the game.

In an ongoing first one-day international match against New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, in Hyderabad, Rohit Sharma got off to a brisk start as he alongside Shubman Gill added 60-runs on board for the first wicket.

Rohit looked in sublime touch in his 34-runs stint which came off 38 deliveries, before mistiming the ball off Blair Tickner in the 13th over. Meanwhile, the Indian skipper outshone legendary Australian batter Adam Gilchrist in the list of run-getters in the ODI format. Sharma now has 9630 runs in 239 ODI matches, while Adam Gilchrist has 9619 runs in 287 ODI matches.

Although, Rohit is crossing important milestones with every runs, he still has some competition ahead of him from his very own teammate Virat Kohli who has scored 12,762 ODI runs and stands at fifth position in this list – studded with big names like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting and Kumar Sangakkara. Besides Rohit and Virat, former Indian skipper MS Dhoni, Saurav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid are also part of the elite list.
