Rahul Gandhi Retains Raebareli, Priyanka Gandhi To Contest From Wayanad
NEW DELHI: Days after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections concluded, with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi winning both the Wayanad and Raebareli constituencies by a comprehensive margin, he has decided to vacate the Wayanad seat and retain his family’s stronghold in Uttar Pradesh.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced that Rahul’s sister, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, will make her electoral debut from the Wayanad seat.
The decision was revealed during a press conference following discussions among the party’s top leadership at Kharge’s residence in New Delhi.
According to electoral norms, Rahul Gandhi had to vacate one of the seats within four days of the Lok Sabha results, which were declared on June 4.
“Rahul Gandhi won from two Lok Sabha seats, but as per the law, he has to vacate one. He will retain Raebareli, and we have decided that Priyanka Gandhi will contest from Wayanad,” Kharge said.
“Priyanka Gandhi is going to fight the elections, and I am confident she will win. The people of Wayanad can consider themselves represented by both my sister and me. My doors are always open for the people of Wayanad, and I love every single person there,” Rahul Gandhi added.
Priyanka Gandhi expressed her commitment to her new constituency, stating, “I am very happy to represent Wayanad, and I will not let them feel Rahul Gandhi’s absence. I will work hard and do my best to be a good representative and make everyone happy.”
