World Cup 2023: R Ashwin Unlikely To Feature In World Cup Squad – Details Inside

World Cup 2023: R Ashwin Unlikely To Feature In World Cup Squad

India’s most experienced off-spinner R Ashwin is unlikely to be part of the 2023 World Cup squad, scheduled to take part in India.

Fresh reports have confirmed that newly recruited Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar is expected to discuss Ashwin’s possibility in the World Cup squad.

If not R Ashwin, the who?

Ashwin last played in the 50-over format one and a half-year-ago in South Africa and since then players like Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav have emerged as a major force in the format.

Also, Jadeja being an off-spinner and perfect all-founder to have, will be key for Team India in World Cup.

Axar Patel is another strong prospect as an off-spinner and his improved batting skills have made his case stronger than ever.

R Ashwin not in the ODI squad vs WI:

Since 2019 World Cup, R Ashwin has only played 2-ODI games and picked just one wicket. Interestingly, Ashwin is also not part of the squad set to play 3 ODIs against West Indies.

Instead, BCCI is sending Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav for three one-day internationals.

The 2023 ODI World Cup is scheduled to start from October 5 with defending champion England taking on New Zealand at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi stadium.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma-led side will kick start its campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai.
