Punjab Police forms SIT to probe the deportation of 700 students from Canada – Details Inside
The Punjab police on Monday formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to prove the case of student’s deportation in Canada. As per India Today report, Ludhiana Range IG Kaustabh Sharma will head the probe.
The case is about 700 students who are facing deportation on account of the ‘fake offer letters’ that were provided to them by an agent in Jalandhar. The students have claimed that they were initially unaware of the fraudulent practices by the agent.
On May 29, students staged a protest outside the head office of the Canadian Border Security Agency in Mississauga, Toronto, Canada, demanding a fair solution to the issue. The matter came to light when some of the students applied for permanent residency in Canada.
Even, India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reacted to the matter and said that it is ‘unfair to punish students who acted in good faith.’
