Punjab Government is Giving Rs. 5 and Rs. 7 Unemployed Allowance to Youth Per Day: RTI

According to RTI findings, the unemployed youth in Punjab are entitled to Rs. 5 and Rs. 7 per day of allowance in the state. The Punjab Government has not increased the unemployed allowance for the past three decades, which remains Rs. 150 per month and Rs. 200 for graduates and post-graduates in 1990-91, and is still the same till December 2022.

Meanwhile, allowance for visually disabled, speech and hearing-impaired undergraduates and graduates are entitled to Rs.450 and Rs. 600 per month, respectively. Furthermore, physically disabled undergraduates are given Rs. 225 per month and graduates and post-graduates are entitled for Rs. 300 per month.

The Indian Express report stated that there is a total of 29,997 registered unemployed in the district including 12,376 Scheduled caste/ST, 179 BC & OBC, and 17,442 general categories.

According to information, allowance is given after three years and at the end of the first quarter after registration. While disabled are entitled to the allowance first quarter after one year of registration.

RTI activist Jai Gopal Dhiman told Indian Express that it is a shame for the government which is making tall clams but giving just Rs. 5 and Rs. 7 unemployed allowances for its youth while in the past three decades, the salaries and perks of political leaders have increased several folds.
