President Joe Biden To Address Nation After Withdrawing Re-election Bid
President Joe Biden will deliver his first address from the Oval Office on Wednesday evening, marking his first public appearance since announcing his decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
The speech is scheduled for 8 PM ET and will outline “what lies ahead, and how I will finish the job for the American people,” according to a post by the president on X.
This announcement follows a statement from Biden’s physician on Monday, indicating that the president’s Covid-19 symptoms have “almost resolved completely.”
Biden, who had been recuperating in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, after contracting the virus last week, is expected to return to the White House today.
Dr. Kevin O’Connor reported that the president completed his 10th dose of the Covid-19 medication Paxlovid on Monday morning and has continued to perform his presidential duties.
Dr. O’Connor noted that Biden’s vital signs, including pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and temperature, are normal, and his oxygen saturation remains excellent.
Biden announced the end of his re-election campaign in a letter shared on social media on Sunday, where he also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
The president’s last public appearance was last Wednesday when he arrived at a U.S. air base in Dover, Delaware, after testing positive for Covid-19 while campaigning in Las Vegas earlier that day.
Biden’s public schedule has been kept clear this week as he recovers from the virus. In his Sunday letter, he expressed his intention to address the nation to explain his decision to withdraw from the re-election race.
