Present calendar of PSL 2023: PCB Chief Najam Sethi tries to take jibe at BCCI secretary Jay Shah, latter ignores

The ongoing tension between India and Pakistan cricket board added yet another chapter as PCB Chief Najam Sethi took a sarcastic jibe at BCCI secretary Jay Shah for ‘unilaterally presenting’ the Asian Cricket Council’s two-year calendar.

Jay Shah, who is also a president of Asian Cricket Council announced the 2023 and 2024 itinerary on his Twitter handle with the marquee Asia Cup scheduled in Asia Cup in September this year, missing out the venue of the continental tournament.

While Pakistan is the official host of the Asia Cup 2023 but BCCI secretary and ACC president, Jay Shah has already made it clear that Indian players will not tour Pakistan owing to political tension between the two countries. In response to Jay Shah’s tweet, newly appointed PCB Chief Najam Sethi urged Mr. Shah to ‘present structure and calendar of Pakistan Super League 2023.’

“Thank you, Jay Shah, for unilaterally presenting ACC structure & calendars 2023-24 especially relating to Asia Cup 2023 for which  is the event host. While you are at it, you might as well present the structure & calendar of our PSL 2023! A swift response will be appreciated,” Mr. Sethi tweeted.

Meanwhile, ACC Chief Jay Shah completey ignored the response from Mr. Sethi and completely ignore his tweet. The Asia Cup 2023 will be a six-team affair involving India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, Afghanistan and a qualifier team. Sri Lanka are the defending champions of the Asia Cup after beating Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates.

While the Asia Cup 2022 was held in the twenty over format looking at T20 World Cup 2022, Asia Cup is set to take place in the 50-over format with the focus being ODI World Cup 2023.

According to the calendar and structure presented by Jay Shah, a total of 145 ODI and T20I matches are scheduled to take place during the two-year cycle (between 2023-24). There will be 75 games in 2023 and 70 games in 2024.

The Emerging (U23) Asia Cup has also made its way to the calendar and will be held in the 50-over format in July this year for men involving eight teams. Meanwhile, the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup this year in June will be a T20 affair involving eight teams.
