Party Trusted Me: Pawan Singh Withdraws Day After BJP Names Him Asansol Candidate
Bhojpuri sensation Pawan Singh, originally slated as the BJP’s candidate for Asansol in West Bengal, made an unexpected announcement on Sunday, revealing his withdrawal from the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
In a statement shared on X, Singh conveyed his sincere gratitude to the top leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party for their trust in nominating him for the Asansol constituency.
However, citing undisclosed reasons, he regretfully declared his inability to contest from Asansol.
The decision sparked reactions across the political spectrum, with Trinamool’s newly elected Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghose suggesting that Singh’s withdrawal was influenced by the backlash he faced over what she termed as “sexist misogynist videos”.
Ghose took to social media to highlight the development, implying that the withdrawal marked a setback for the BJP’s “nari shakti” (women empowerment) narrative in Bengal, exposing it as superficial and insincere.
