No Alliance with Congress: AAP Releases First List Of 20 Candidates For Haryana Assembly Elections
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday released its first list of 20 candidates for the upcoming Haryana assembly elections, signaling that the party will contest the polls independently, without forming an alliance with Congress.
The move comes after prolonged negotiations between the two parties failed to yield an agreement on seat sharing.
AAP Haryana chief Sushil Gupta expressed that the party “waited honestly” for an alliance but has now decided to move forward on its own. He also announced that a second list of candidates would be released soon.
Key candidates from the first list include Haryana unit vice president Anurag Dhanda for Kalayat, Indu Sharma for Bhiwani, Vikas Nehra for Meham, and Bijender Hooda for Rohtak.
The deadline for filing nominations for the 90-member assembly is September 12, while the election will be held on October 5, with results declared on October 8.
The breakdown in talks between AAP and Congress reportedly stemmed from differences over seat distribution. AAP demanded 10 seats, but Congress offered only five.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh said the party is fully prepared for the elections, stating, “Our priority is to remove the BJP. We will fight the elections strongly and fulfill our five guarantees.”
Congress MP Deepender Hooda acknowledged the release of both parties’ candidate lists and emphasized that discussions are still ongoing, but both parties are focused on addressing “10 years of BJP misgovernance.”
