Mumbai Police Intercepts Suspicious Fishing Boat Near Gateway Of India, Starts Probe
MUMBAI: The Mumbai police have initiated an investigation following the suspicious discovery of a fishing boat drifting near the city’s coastline early on Tuesday.
Authorities reported that three individuals from Tamil Nadu were found aboard the boat and are currently undergoing questioning.
According to police sources, the Yellow Gate police patrol initially observed the fishing boat loitering near the Sassoon dock. Further investigation revealed that the boat had arrived from Kuwait.
“After being spotted, the boat, along with its occupants, was escorted to the Gateway of India, where it was anchored, and the trio were detained for interrogation,” stated an officer involved in the operation.
Upon questioning, the individuals disclosed that they had been brought to Kuwait by an agent two years ago. However, they claimed that the agent had failed to compensate them for their work and had mistreated them, prompting their decision to escape with the boat and seek refuge in Mumbai.
Although a thorough inspection of the vessel yielded no suspicious items, authorities are diligently verifying the individuals’ statements as part of ongoing investigations.
