After ‘Dil Dil,’ Mickey Arthur Blames ‘Tight Security’ For Flop World Cup Show

BENGALURU: Pakistan is facing a formidable challenge in their quest to secure a spot in the top four of the ICC World Cup 2023.

Currently occupying the 5th position on the tournament table, they have garnered six points from seven matches. Another defeat in their upcoming game could dash their hopes of advancing to the knockout stage.

In preparation for their upcoming clash against New Zealand on November 4, Pakistan’s team director, Mickey Arthur, has assessed the team’s lackluster performance.

In a somewhat controversial statement, Arthur attributed the recent string of losses to the stringent security measures in India.

Arthur explained that the extensive security arrangements have severely restricted the players’ ability to socialize, which, in turn, has had a negative impact on their performance.

“We have been subjected to extensive security measures. It’s been quite challenging. It almost feels like a return to the days of COVID, as the players find themselves confined to their designated floors and are unable to venture out for social interactions,” he told reporters.

He elaborated further, “Breakfast is served in separate rooms, and the limited social interaction has taken a toll on the players.”

Mickey Arthur had previously made headlines when Pakistan faced a defeat at the hands of India on October 14. At that time, he drew attention by mentioning the absence of the popular song ‘Dil Dil Pakistan’ at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
