Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Passes Away – Details Inside

Congress veteran and former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy died early on Tuesday morning in Bengaluru. He breathed his last at the age of 80.

His son made the announcement via Facebook at 4:30 AM and wrote; “Appa has passed away.”

Oommen Chandy Was ill from long:

The deceased leader had been ailing since 2019, and was under treatment in Berlin’s Charite Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram’s NIMS Medicity and Bengaluru’s Heath Care Global Enterprises over the course of the past year.

Reactions:

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his condolence over Chandy’s death and said ‘It is extremely difficult to bid him farewell.’

We were elected to the Legislative Assembly in the same year. It was at the same age that we came to the political fore through student life. We led public life at the same time and it is extremely difficult to bid him farewell,” he told ANI.

Oommen Chandy’s Political career:

Chandy had in 2022, become the longest-serving member of the Kerala Assembly by representing his home constituency Puthupally, in the House for 18.728 days.

He was elected to the Kerala Assembly at the age of 27 and won 11 polls back-t0-back. He also served as the Chief Minister of Kerala for two terms – 2004-06 and 2011-16.
