Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ Release Delayed Amid Censor Board Certification Issues
The release of Kangana Ranaut’s much-anticipated directorial venture Emergency has been postponed due to delays in receiving certification from the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
On September 6, Ranaut took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce the setback and inform fans that a new release date would be revealed soon.
In her post, Kangana wrote, “With a heavy heart, I announce that my directorial Emergency has been postponed. We are still waiting for certification from the censor board. A new release date will be announced soon. Thanks for your understanding and patience.“
The film, which has already generated controversy ahead of its release, faces opposition from certain Sikh community representatives, who have raised concerns about its portrayal of historical events. Petitions calling for a complete ban on the screening have been filed.
Kangana, addressing the delay during an appearance on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, voiced her frustration, saying, “Meri film pe hi Emergency lag gayi hai. Bahut hi nirashajanak ye sthiti hai. Main toh khair bahut hi zyada disappointed hu apne desh se, aur jo bhi haalaat hain” (An Emergency has been imposed on my film now. It’s a terrible situation. I am very disappointed with our nation and how things are unfolding here).
Written and directed by Kangana herself, Emergency stars Ranaut alongside Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and the late Satish Kaushik.
Produced by Zee Studios, Manikarnika Films, and Renu Pitti, the film’s music is composed by Sanchit Balhara and G V Prakash Kumar, with screenplay and dialogues by Ritesh Shah.
