Jigra Records Alia Bhatt’s Lowest Box Office Opening Since 2014 – Details Inside
Alia Bhatt, one of the most successful female stars in Bollywood, has faced an unexpected challenge with her latest release Jigra. Despite a decade of delivering box office hits, Jigra registered Alia’s lowest opening in years, with just ₹4.55 crore in India on day 1.
This is the lowest opening for any Alia Bhatt film since Highway in 2014.
Jigra’s underwhelming box office start Directed by Vasan Bala, Jigra saw stiff competition from Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which outperformed it by earning ₹5.25 crore on the same day.
Globally, Jigra managed ₹7.45 crore on its first day. Despite a 42% jump on Saturday, bringing in ₹6.50 crore, the low initial collection may hinder its overall performance.
Comparing Alia’s past openings Historically, Alia’s films have performed significantly better.
Her previous solo hits, such as Raazi (₹7.53 crore) and Gangubai Kathiawadi (₹10.50 crore), set a much higher benchmark. Even her flops, Shaandaar (₹13.10 crore) and Kalank (₹21.60 crore), had stronger openings. The weak buzz around Jigra signals a surprising departure from Alia’s usual box office success.
