Jay Shah Elected Unopposed As ICC Chairman, Becomes Youngest To Lead Global Cricket Body
Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, was elected unopposed as the new chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on August 27, 2024.
At 35, Shah will be the youngest person to helm the global cricket body, succeeding Greg Barclay, who opted not to seek a third term after serving since 2020. Shah will officially take over the role on December 1, 2024.
Having served as BCCI secretary since 2019 and Chair of the Asian Cricket Council since 2021, Shah’s leadership will come at a crucial moment, with the inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics marking a significant milestone for the sport’s global reach.
He will be the fifth Indian to chair the ICC, following Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar.
