Irdai directs insurers to speed-up claim settlement process for Biparjoy victims

Insurance regulator Irdai has asked all the insurers to settle claims in the states affected by cyclone Biparjoy effectively.

In a circular to CEOs of all general insurance companies standalone health insurance companies, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IDRAI) instructed to ensure claim payments on account payments are disturbed at the earliest.

The circular further stressed on the use of electronic communication while filing the claim and relevant documents. Cyclone Biparjoy is likely to destroy many properties like houses and infrastructure – across states.

The insurers have been advised to communicate the nomination of senior executive in each affected state/UT to the Chief Secretary/Officer concerned of the state immediately.

The circular informed that the District Claim Service Head will look after if the large number of claims is seen.

Notably, cyclone Biparjoy made the landfall on the coast of Kutch on Thursday and caused massive loss to prosperities.
