IPL 2024: Glenn Maxwell Takes Break From SRH Match To Maintain Mental Stability
BENGALURU: Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Glenn Maxwell made the bold decision to step aside from the IPL clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday, April 15th, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Acknowledging his recent struggles, Maxwell approached the RCB team management and requested to be omitted from the lineup.
In response, the hosts made several alterations to their squad, introducing Will Jacks, Lockie Ferguson, and Reece Topley as their overseas players, alongside skipper Faf du Plessis.
Maxwell’s disappointing form reflected in his meager contributions, managing only 32 runs from six matches, averaging 5.33 with a strike rate of 94.11.
Explaining his decision in the post-match press conference, Maxwell shared his perspective, stating, “For me, personally, it was a straightforward decision. I approached Faf du Plessis and the coaches after the last game and expressed my belief that it was time to explore other options. I’ve experienced similar situations before, where persisting only leads to further setbacks.”
Maxwell emphasized the importance of taking a mental and physical break to rejuvenate, affirming his readiness to return in a stronger capacity if required during the tournament.
Acknowledging his recent struggles, Maxwell highlighted his area of strength, expressing his disappointment at not fulfilling his role effectively, especially during the crucial period post-powerplay.
“We have had a pretty big deficiency straight after the powerplay, which has been my area of strength over the last couple of seasons. I felt like I wasn’t contributing in a positive way with the bat, and with the results and the position we find ourselve on the table, I think It’s a good time to give someone else an oppurtnity to show their warers, and hopefully, someone can make that spot their own,” Maxwell said.
Despite the lineup changes, Royal Challengers Bangalore failed to reverse their fortunes, succumbing to a 25-run defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Pursuing a formidable target of 288 runs, Bangalore managed 262 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs. With six losses out of seven matches, Faf du Plessis’ side languishes at the bottom of the points table with just two points and a dismal net run rate of -1.185.
