Can Team India Still Qualify For WTC Final After 0-3 Series Loss To New Zealand?
Team India’s road to the World Test Championship (WTC) final took a major hit following a 25-run loss to New Zealand in the third Test at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, marking a historic 0-3 series whitewash at home.
This defeat has significantly impacted India’s standing, lowering their WTC points percentage (PCT) from over 74% to 58.33%.
India now sits in the second position on the WTC points table, with Australia leading after India’s steep dip. The team must now face critical challenges to maintain its chance at a place in the WTC final.
WTC Final Qualification Scenarios for India
For a guaranteed spot in the WTC final, India must win four of their remaining five matches, with only one draw allowed. This scenario would secure them a 67.54% PCT.
Alternatively, winning all five matches would raise their PCT to 69.29%—a necessary feat to potentially secure a spot without relying on other results, especially considering their upcoming series against the defending WTC champions in Australia.
