India Wraps Up Paris Olympics with 6 Medals; Vinesh Phogat’s Appeal Still Pending
India’s participation in the Paris Olympics has concluded with a total of six medals, including five bronze and one silver. The final tally falls short of the seven medals won at the Tokyo Olympics, where India secured one gold, two silver, and four bronze.
The Indian contingent’s journey was marked by a mix of emotions over the past two weeks.
The campaign began with a sense of pride as Manu Bhaker won a bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol event, becoming the first female Indian shooter to medal at the Olympics.
Bhaker later teamed up with Sarabjot Singh to secure another bronze in the 10m air pistol mixed team event, marking a historic first for India in shooting team events.
Swapnil Kusale continued the momentum with a bronze in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event, completing a historic hat-trick of shooting medals for India.
The hockey team, despite a semi-final loss to Germany, redeemed themselves with a 2-1 victory over Spain in the bronze medal match, bringing home another medal.
Neeraj Chopra, India’s standout athlete, added a silver in the men’s javelin throw with a throw of 89.45 meters. While the silver was celebrated, there was also a hint of disappointment as Chopra fell short of defending his gold medal from the previous Olympics.
Aman Sehrawat, the youngest Indian to win an individual Olympic medal, secured bronze in the men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling, defeating Darian Cruz of Puerto Rico.
The seventh medal for India hinges on the outcome of Vinesh Phogat‘s appeal against her disqualification from the Olympic finals. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has postponed its decision on Phogat’s case until August 13.
India’s Paris Olympics campaign has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows, reflecting both the nation’s achievements and ongoing challenges.
