IND Vs ENG: Shreyas Iyer Ruled Out Of Last Three Tests, Confirms BCCI
Shreyas Iyer will be absent from the remaining matches of India’s ongoing five-Test series against England. Despite featuring in the starting lineup for the first two Tests, he has been omitted from the squad for the subsequent three matches.
Reportedly nursing a stiff back, Iyer’s absence extends for the remainder of the series. The 29-year-old has encountered a recent dip in form, failing to achieve a Test half-century in his last 11 innings.
Stepping in at number 4 for the absent Virat Kohli, Iyer struggled to make a significant impact. He managed scores of 27 and 29 in Vizag as India leveled the series 1-1 against England.
Throughout the current series, Iyer has accumulated 104 runs across four innings. Over his 14-match Test career, he has amassed 811 runs at an average of 36.86, including five fifties and a solitary hundred.
Meanwhile, the return of Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul to the squad for the remaining matches is pending fitness clearance from the BCCI. Jadeja sustained a hamstring injury, while Rahul injured his quadriceps during the series opener.
England currently leads the series after a narrow 28-run victory in Hyderabad, followed by a 106-run defeat in Vizag. They aim to become the first team in 11 years to clinch a Test series in India, with the last instance achieved by Alastair Cook’s England in 2012/13.
The third Test is scheduled at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot, starting on February 15, followed by matches in Ranchi on February 23 and Dharamsala on March 7.
