Chennai – Rishabh Pant achieved a remarkable milestone during Day 3 of the first Test between India and Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday.
Pant smashed his sixth Test hundred, equaling MS Dhoni’s record for the most centuries by an Indian wicket-keeper.
Returning to Test cricket after a gap of 629 days following his tragic car accident, Pant reached his century in 124 deliveries.
This landmark innings also made him the fastest wicket-keeper for India to score six centuries, accomplishing the feat in just 58 innings, significantly quicker than Dhoni, who took 144 innings to achieve the same milestone.

Pant was given a lifeline at 72 when Najmul Hossain Shanto dropped him off Shakib Al Hasan’s bowling. He capitalized on this opportunity and, along with Shubman Gill, helped India add 124 runs in the morning session.

Gill, who started the day at 33, played his trademark minimalistic strokes and reached his half-century off 79 balls. His composed yet effective shot-making continued as he, too, scored a century, further solidifying his place in the Test lineup.
Pant’s aggressive and bold approach contrasted with Gill’s calm execution, as they put Bangladesh’s bowlers under constant pressure.

Pant was eventually dismissed for 109 off 128 balls by Mehidy Hasan Miraz after reaching his milestone. His innings included 13 boundaries and 4 sixes, further enhancing his reputation as one of India’s most impactful batters in the longest format.
