Hamas Claims Israeli Hostage Shot Dead And Two Women Wounded In Gaza
Hamas has announced that an Israeli hostage held in Gaza was shot dead by his guard, and that two other women held in Gaza were seriously wounded.
Abu Ubaida, spokesperson for Hamas’ armed al-Qassam Brigades, stated that a committee has been formed to investigate both incidents.
This is the first time al-Qassam has reported that guards have killed hostages, as previous claims of hostage deaths have been attributed to Israeli bombardments.
Israeli Army spokesperson Avichay Adraee noted that there is currently no intelligence to confirm or refute Hamas’ allegations, and investigations are ongoing.
The statements came amid calls for de-escalation from world leaders, including Sir Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
They urged Iran and its allies to avoid actions that could jeopardize efforts for a ceasefire and the release of hostages.
There are strong rumors that Hezbollah and Iran could retaliate within the next 24 to 48 hours.
