EXCLUSIVE || PM likely to inaugurate Hollongi Airport in 1st week of November, passengers flight by 15th

The Hollongi Greenfield airport near Arunachal Pradesh’s capital Itanagar is likely to be inaugurated in first week of November, 2022, and passengers flight will start from 15th. A source close to the development told The Quotes that the Hollongi Greenfield Airport is almost ready and the final work is underway in full swing.

“Prime Minister will inaugurate the airport in 1st week of November, and flight operations will start by 15th of November. Although, tickets booking are yet not available but the final work at the airport is underway,” source told The Quotes. Meanwhile, the national carrier Indigo on Tuesday successful conducted a test landing of an Airbus A320 Flight at Hollongi airport. Reportedly, IndiGo is planning to launch multiple flights from there.

Mr. Sanmukh Jugani, Regional Executive Director, Airport Authority of India informed on Thursday that a world-class Integrated Terminal Building at Imphal Airport will be operational in 24 months, stating the estimate cost of the building to be approximately Rs. 500 Cr.

“The New International Terminal Building will be spread over an area of 22,000 square meters, and it will feature top-notch facilities for passengers. The building will be able to cater to around 2.5 million Passengers Per Annum. The ATC Control Tower Cum Technical Block will have Ground floor + 6 floors of 40-meter height. The Service Building of the airport will be built in an Area of 2152 Sqm. A new Apron and Taxiways will also be built with eight Stands for Code –C type aircraft- Airbus A 320 and Boeing 737,” said Mr Jugani.  

The official further informed that the cargo complex at the Imphal Airport is being built at the cost of Rs.16 Crore (approx.), of which physical progress of over 69 % has been completed and is expected to be completed by March 02, 2023. “The cargo complex will have a capacity of 1,05,120 MT/Annum.  The Terminal Building at Imphal Airport caters to around 250 arrivals plus 250 Departures during peak hours. It is designed for a passenger handling capacity of 0.6 million Per Annum,” added Mr Jugani.

In a candid chat with The Quotes, Mr Jugani informed a few months back that the Hollongi airport fulfils the long-awaited aspiration of the people of Arunachal Pradesh to get the capital city connected by air to other cities of the country.

“It will act as a primary gateway to the state of Arunachal Pradesh. The Greenfield airport will also be the first airport to accommodate A-320/ B-737 types of aircraft in Arunachal Pradesh which have a carrying capacity of handling about 180 passengers,” the officer told The Quotes. 

The Quotes earlier reported that the airport is strategically important and will boost the region’s economic development in case of any natural calamities. “It will greatly help provide relief in affected areas much faster. It is equipped with an Instrument Landing System (ILS) of CAT-I and night landing facilities to operate in low visibility,” Mr Jugani added in an exclusive conversation with The Quotes. Notably, Mr Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, laid the Foundation Stone for the Development of Hollongi Airport on February 09, 2019.
