Delhi Reports First Case of JN.1 Corona Sub-Variant Amid Rising Numbers
NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, Delhi confirmed its first case of the JN.1 coronavirus sub-variant, as announced by City Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj in a statement to news agency ANI.
The detection occurred shortly after authorities conducted genome sequencing on multiple samples, revealing one case positive for the new variant, JN.1, alongside two cases of the Omicron variant.
Bhardwaj conveyed, “Out of the 3 samples sent for genome sequencing, one is JN.1 & two are Omicron.”
Earlier the same day, the Delhi Health Department reported nine new Covid-19 cases within the past 24 hours, bringing the city’s active case count to 35.
Notably, one individual, not originally from Delhi, succumbed to Covid-19, with comorbidities playing a significant role in the fatality.
The deceased, referred to a private hospital recently, had incidental Covid findings. His sample has been sent for genome sequencing, awaiting the corresponding report.
Meanwhile, India documented 529 fresh Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, maintaining an active case count of 4,093.
