Delhi police held MBA graduate for duping many by providing fake international airline tickets

A 42-year-old MBA graduate has been held by the Delhi Police for duping scores of people worth Rs. 3 crores by issuing duplicate international airline tickets at a 25 to 30 per cent discount rate. The accused, identified as Ravinder Kumar, a B-tech graduate in Electronics & Communication from NIT Jammu and a further qualified MBA post-graduate in marketing from Pune, was arrested by the investigating team from the Janak Puri area of Delhi. 

According to Delhi Police, the accused had cheated more than 30 people on the pretext of providing international airline tickets at a 25-50 % discount rate.

“A person approached Cyber Police station in Rohini a few days back and alleged that accused assured him to provide international air tickets at a discounted price. To win his faith, the alleged Ravinder provided him with a ticket at Rs. 95,000 whereas the price on the website for the same was Rs. 1,25,000,” said Mr Pranav Tayal, DCP, Rohini District. 

After being assured of hefty discounts on international tickets, the complaint asked Ravinder for seven tickets to Port of Spain. “The price of the same was showing on the website for Rs 12,25,000, while Ravinder offered him to provide the tickets for Rs. 9,75,000 and asked him to deposit the money in multiple accounts,” added the officer.

According to police, the complainant deposited the money in the accounts given by alleged Ravinder. “On receipt of the money, the alleged sent two dummy/hold tickets and assured him that he would provide all the confirmed tickets two days before the date of the journey, i.e., 5 March 2022. However, on the promised date, neither the alleged gave any ticket nor returned his money,” informed the police. Accordingly, a case under section 420 IPC (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) was registered at Cyber Rohini police station.
