Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Granted Bail After Skipping ED Summons
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal got bail on Saturday from the Rouse Avenue Court. He had to appear in court because he didn’t show up for several summonses about the Delhi Excise Policy case, as the Enforcement Directorate (ED) complained.
The court granted bail after Kejriwal paid a surety bond of Rs 15,000 and a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. The Rouse Avenue Court had asked Kejriwal to come to court in person. This was because the ED said he hadn’t obeyed their summonses.
The court said that Kejriwal’s offense was bailable, so he was allowed bail. Kejriwal and his lawyer Ramesh Gupta went to court with tight security.
Sanjeev Nasiar, the legal head of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), said to ANI news agency, “The Chief Minister was asked to come to court. Last time, he attended via video call. This time, he came in person and got bail.”
The next court date is April 1. The day before, the court had refused Kejriwal’s request to delay his appearance. This new summons came from a fresh case filed by the ED against Kejriwal, who had missed eight summonses so far.
Earlier, the ED wanted Kejriwal prosecuted for not attending the first three summonses related to the money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy.
The ED’s chargesheets mentioned Kejriwal’s involvement in the case. Also, some AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, and some liquor businessmen have been arrested in this case.
