Bengaluru: India Unveils First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Prototype – Key Details Inside
The first prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper coach has been unveiled by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at BEML’s Bagaluru facility.
The coach, which marks a significant upgrade over existing models like the Rajdhani Express, is set to undergo a 10-day test run, followed by further on-track evaluations.
If successful, the sleeper coach is expected to commence operations for the general public within three months.
Designed for long-distance travel, the Vande Bharat sleeper coach promises enhanced comfort and superior performance. It is expected to run at an average speed of 160 kmph, with testing speeds reaching 180 kmph, thanks to its faster acceleration and deceleration capabilities.
The train will feature a total of 16 coaches, including 4 AC 2-tier coaches (188 berths), 11 AC 3-tier coaches (611 berths), and 1 AC First Class Coach (24 berths).
Passengers can look forward to world-class amenities such as GFRP panels, sensor-based interiors, automatic exterior doors, ergonomic and odor-free toilets, communication doors, and spacious luggage rooms, among other features.
