Bangladesh Secures Historic 10-Wicket Victory Over Pakistan In Rawalpindi Test
In a historic match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets in the first Test of their two-match series.
Under the leadership of Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh achieved their target of 30 runs in just 6.3 overs without losing a wicket, marking their first Test victory over Pakistan in 14 attempts.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh, having established a 117-run lead in the first innings, dismissed Pakistan for 146 in their second innings during the second session of the final day.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz was instrumental with the ball, claiming four wickets for 21 runs in 11.5 overs. Shakib Al Hasan also contributed significantly, taking three wickets for 44 runs in 17 overs.
This win not only puts Bangladesh 1-0 up in the series but also elevates them to joint-fifth in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 standings.
Conversely, Pakistan, who have lost all four Tests under captain Shan Masood, now sit second-last.
Key performances included Mushfiqur Rahim’s first-innings score of 191 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s all-round efforts, with 77 runs and five wickets in the match.
Shadman Islam (93), Mominul Haque (50), and Litton Das (56) also made crucial contributions. For Pakistan, Mohammad Rizwan’s 171 in the first innings and 51 in the second were not enough to prevent defeat.
The second Test of the series will commence at the same venue on Friday, August 30.
