Atishi Sworn In As Delhi’s Youngest Chief Minister, Succeeds Arvind Kejriwal – Check Full Cabinet
New Delhi – Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Atishi took the oath as the 8th Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday, following Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation.
Atishi, the youngest person to ever hold the post, succeeds Kejriwal, who stepped down after securing bail from the Supreme Court in the alleged excise policy case.
In a modest ceremony at Raj Niwas, Atishi was sworn in by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, along with her newly formed council of ministers, which includes Saurabh Bharadwaj, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Imran Hussain, and first-time MLA Mukesh Ahlawat.
Atishi, who represents the Kalkaji constituency and was the only woman minister in Kejriwal’s outgoing cabinet, was unanimously chosen by AAP MLAs for the Chief Minister’s position during a party meeting on September 17.
AAP’s New Leadership:
Following the swearing-in, Atishi sought blessings by touching Arvind Kejriwal’s feet. Kejriwal had officially resigned earlier in the week, and President Droupadi Murmu accepted his resignation and approved the appointment of Atishi and her new ministers.
An AAP leader revealed that the ceremony was kept low-key due to the party’s somber mood after Kejriwal’s resignation and the short time available for preparations due to delays in official approvals.
Atishi’s New Cabinet:
Atishi’s new Delhi Cabinet includes:
- Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Imran Hussain, all ministers from the previous Kejriwal government.
- Mukesh Ahlawat, a first-time MLA from Sultanpur Majra, joins the cabinet as the new entrant.
Portfolio Distribution:
Atishi will handle a total of 13 key portfolios, including finance, revenue, PWD, power, and education, just as in the Kejriwal government.
- Gopal Rai will oversee environment, development, and general administration.
- Saurabh Bharadwaj has been assigned health, tourism, and urban development.
- Kailash Gahlot will manage transport, home, and women and child development.
- Imran Hussain will handle food and supplies and elections.
- Mukesh Ahlawat has been given the charge of gurudwara elections, SC & ST welfare, and labour and employment.
