Asia Cup 2023: Sri Lanka agrees to host 50-over continental tournament, no takers for PCB’s hybrid-model

The Sri Lanka Cricket Board on Monday, May 29, reportedly said that it is ready to host the Asia Cup if Asian Cricket Council decides to allot the continental tournament to the island nation.

The massive development comes days ahead of the high-level ACC meeting is expected to take place in India and a crucial decision is likely on six-nation 50-over championship.

“SLC is prepared to host the Asia Cup at a short notice. The decision is now up to the ACC,” a top-SLC official was quoted by Cricbuzz. The report has also confirmed that all the ACC stakeholders have agreed for one venue, instead of hybrid mode, earlier proposed by PCB Chair Najam Sethi.

Sethi earlier table the idea of hybrid-model, where first four matches would take place in Pakistan, and rest comprising India will take place at neutral venue. However, the idea was reportedly debunked by the Bangladesh Cricket Board and Sri Lankan Cricket Board.

Notably, the chairman of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Emirates Cricket and Nepal (Cricket Boards) are in India as they were invited by the BCCI secretary to watch the IPL 2023 Final, concluded on Tuesday.
