Aligarh: Woman Shot At Police Station During Passport Verification – WATCH
ALIGARH: A chilling incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh on Friday afternoon when a woman was mistakenly shot by a police officer inside the Aligarh Kotwali Nagar police station. The victim, 48-year-old Ishrat, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
CCTV Footage Captures the Accident
CCTV footage captured the horrifying incident, showing Ishrat standing patiently in the police station. Suddenly, police officer Manoj Sharma, the in-charge of Bhujpura Outpost, enters and receives a pistol from another officer.
In a tragic turn of events, Sharma accidentally fires the weapon, striking Ishrat in the back of the head and causing her to fall to the ground.
Police Officer Absconding, Investigation Launched
Immediately following the incident, Sharma absconded from the scene. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend him. SSP Kalanidhi Naithani confirmed that Sharma has been suspended with immediate effect and a criminal case has been registered against him.

The incident has sparked outrage and calls for justice from the public. Many are questioning the safety protocols within police stations and demanding stricter guidelines and training for officers regarding firearm handling.
Family Speaks Out
Ishrat’s family confirmed that she was at the police station for passport verification. Her son, who was present at the time of the shooting, expressed his shock and grief.

Naithani stated that a team of senior officials has been appointed to investigate the matter. He added that a departmental inquiry has been initiated against Sharma and a criminal case has been registered.
