The Kashmir Files-Oscar saga: Director Vivek Agnihotri makes false claim

Fame director Vivek Agnihotri claimed on Monday that The Kashmir Files, released in 2022, shortlisted among five Indians films for the Academy Awards turned out to be misleading in first place.

Notably, Mr. Agnihotri on Monday, informed that The Kashmir Files, has been shortlisted for the Oscars, adding that it’s one of the five Indian films. While, The Kashmir Files is one of the films shortlisted in the first list of Academy Awards, Mithun Chakrabarty-starter box office blockbuster is not among the five Indian films.

A dozen of Indian films – Chhello Show (India’s official entry to the Oscars), RRR, Kantara, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, Vikrant Rona and a host of other Indian language feature films -are part of the first list.

What is the first list?

Basically, the first list is a list of movies which are eligible for the final nomination in the Best Picture Category.

The director also claimed that actors – Pallavi Joshi, Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumaar and Anupam Kher – who starred in The Kashmir Files are shortlisted for the best actor category.

In reality, featuring in the list does not mean that actors are nominated, but they are eligible for nomination. The list also includes actors like Madhavan and Shahrukh Khan for Rocketery: The Nambi Effect, Kiccha Sudeep for Vikrant Rona, Rishabh Shetty for Kantara.
