Security Beefed Up Ahead Of PM Modi’s US Visit Amid Threats From Khalistan Elements: Report
Washington DC – In preparation for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three-day visit to the United States, security officials in New Delhi and Washington DC have enhanced security measures.
The increased vigilance follows concerns arising from two recent assassination attempts on former US President Donald Trump. Security teams from both nations have been coordinating closely for the past 15 days to ensure a safe and secure visit for PM Modi.
Modi’s itinerary includes stops in Delaware and New York, where he will meet US President Joe Biden for the Quad Leaders Summit. American officials have ramped up security around meeting venues, ensuring that all areas are fortified.
Security Measures Amid Threats:
Media reports suggest that the US security establishment has taken additional precautions due to potential threats from pro-Khalistan elements in the country.
Authorities have increased security at the Quad Summit venue, Archmere Academy, where President Biden attended high school. To secure the area, no crowd or students will be permitted on the premises during the event.
Both India’s Special Protection Group (SPG), which handles the security of Indian Prime Ministers, and the US Secret Service, responsible for the American president’s safety, have been closely collaborating in preparation for PM Modi’s visit.
This cooperation has been especially crucial as Modi is scheduled to address over 20,000 members of the Indian diaspora in New York on September 22.
Local police in Nassau County have also been mobilized to secure the diaspora event. The county’s police previously handled large-scale events, including the T20 World Cup, which saw high-profile matches like India vs Pakistan.
Additional Events in New York:
PM Modi’s visit coincides with other major global events in New York. The city will host the Summit of the Future on September 23, and the United Nations General Assembly is also taking place. Given the significance of these gatherings, authorities have taken extensive measures to ensure security and prevent any untoward incidents.
Modi is expected to return to India on September 24 after completing his three-day, high-profile trip.
